Hi guys, In the previous webinar session, we talked about some custom Fx that I prepared for skin selection and another one for beauty pass. I've combined both in a third one that isolates the skin and applies the Beauty Pass in some automatic way (although you can control the value from the Color Grade included in the stack, I've renamed to make it clear). Keep in mind that the skin selector is created for SDR images, so depending on the project can be more or less useful. I think what is really interesting is the fact you can play with these effects, change parameters and see how they work in order to understand a bit better the capabilities of Mistika. The…

A few days ago I spent some time in the hotkey editor of Mistika (accessible via the login screen) and discovered a myriad of interesting keyboard shortcuts, some of them quite useful. I started compiling some of the key ones for my own reference in a Google Sheet. Just a fraction of it, but gives you a flavor. Today I was looking to see if there's a better way to scroll up/down in the parameter tab on the left in the Visual Editor. I know you can scroll with 'right click - scroll'. That works great with a mouse or the pen. But doesn't work on the Wacom in touch mode so well. So I was looking for any keyboard short cuts to scroll the parameters up/down, an…

  3. Hi guys, We have finally finished the mapping for Tangent Wave 2. The reason why it took some time is because we have dramatically improved the organization of the functionalities in Mistika to allow the remapping using the Tangent Mapper app. This is not yet integrated into the current builds, because we still need to organize the Stereo3D FX and add more functionalities in our library to offer you more flexibility when remapping the panels. Everything related to Colour, Memories, Color Histories, Shapes, Keyers, Framing, etc is now much better organize for remapping the panels. We will include this as soon as we finished what we consider the basic library of …

Hi guys! In the first Open Beta versions of Mistika Boutique the VR Presets are not being installed. If you have Mistika VR installed you can load them from the same folder, if not, please download the attached file. It is not necessary to copy the folder at any specific location. To load a preset you can just drag and drop the file into the Timeline. This will load a VR Stitch effect that you can place on top of your camera stack. If you want to build your own stitch or learn more about how to manage your stitchs directly in Mistika Boutique, take a look to this masterclass: Enjoy Mistika! Cam…

  9. Started by Jeff Sousa,

Just curious if 32GB of system RAM is appropriate for 4K color grading in Mistika Boutique. In the system configuration guide, 16 GB is specified for HD work and 64 is specified for 4K, but there is no mention of 32GB. My system has 32GB of RAM, 2x 1080 Ti GPUs, and a 1950X Threadripper CPU. I was just wondering if I was limiting my performance by not upgrading to 64GB of RAM as per your configuration guide.

  10. Started by Rakesh Malik,

I'm working on stitching some VR footage captured using a Kandao Obsidian Go, and being new to doing this, struggling a bit. It seems like the Go doesn't store metadata in its video files, and the Kandao Studio app is also having trouble getting the stitches right. Its stitches have some huge gaps in them, like they're dropping one camera angle or something. That part I pinged Kandao about, but in the mean time does anyone have any advice on getting started with the stitching? Thanks!

  11. Started by jan1,

I was just working on a project where I setup the ACES workflow as usual: Clip, then Unicolor mapping from camera to AP1/ACEScct, then ColorGrade, then ACES ODT to map to Rec709. I noticed that if I make adjustments in the bands the highlights and whites largely seem to affect the same values in the waveform. I am assuming that the ranges that divide the bands 'highlight' and 'white' are calibrated more to a log color space rather than the AP1 color space and thus not sitting right. Same with the softclip roll-off. Is there a fix for that or a way to have the bands react properly? If I replace the ACES Unicolor and ODT with just a camera LUT everything works as…

  12. Started by jan1,

Just sharing some insights from a support ticket we resolved. On the last project I was working with a standard scene referred ACES workflow, RED Raw footage, Unicolor and ODT. As explained in most tutorials I added the ODT at the top of the stack. That turned out to have some unforeseen consequences. I'm losing the ODT in some storyboard functions, and particularly in the gang solo. I also lose the ODT when in the vector paint. After debugging we determined that neither was a bug. The story board/gang solo is by design. The vector paint is turned into a feature request. But the main take away, and reasons for this post, is that when you work with ACES it a…

This must be a super simple, but I cant find it anywhere. I like to 'add Layer' in the 'ColorGrade' interface with a shortcut, but cant find it. Also I would be nice if after adding a layer with a shortcut that I can name it directly to keep an easy view.

  14. Started by jan1,

Here are a few topics of things I do frequently and where I'm not 100% yet how to do in Mistika BT: 1) Use the base vector to key skin or some other element before any color correction, and then route that key to a later vector, possibly even combining two keys and adding a mask (similar to key mixer in Resolve tree). I've gotten it to work by enabling the extern key in the key tab and selecting the appropriate vector and alpha. But not sure I'm getting all the nuances and best practices. 2) Importing external EXR sequences from another roto software. I've been able to export the EXR and create the roto mask, but am not clear how to re-import the EXR files and u…

  15. Hola.

Hello, Is there any tool to fix aliasing in Mistika? There's a tool in Nucoda called DVO Alias and it works very nicely, Is there an equivalent tool (or a technique) to solve these issues in Mistika? Thanks Colin

I'm trying to move a graphic over a video following the head movement of a person,,, the graphic is a image which is smaller than the background video and I compose it with a Comp3d The problem is that when I track the head on the video and I apply it to the image, it didn't work well, first because the position of the image is reset to 0 (but I can fix moving the curves) but the issue is that only works with position X and Y if I try to apply rotation or size it doesn't match at all any idea??

  18. I already made a topic last year about Rec709 -> sRGB and color transform regarding Unicolor. Now I am working on a TVC shot on a Alexa in LogC and if I transform Arri LogC to Rec 709 I get a super contrasty result with the Unicolor. Versus using a 3D LUT provided by ARRI. My question is why is there such a big difference in the transformation? I really like to use the Unicolor since it is not LUT based, but that is only possible if it got the transformations right. (or am I doing something wrong here?)

  19. Hi, I'm evaluating a trial of Mistika Boutique 10.2.0 on my 2019 MacPro. Everything is working great, but I can not get Arri Raw to play back at all. This includes .ari and mxf wrapped from the Amira. The app just sits there and I get a spinning ball until I hit stop on my tangent panel. I have watched the "Performance Setting Tutorial" on YouTube, but nothing I set seems to help with the Arri files. Maybe I'm missing a setting, can anyone recommend an optimal config setting? These are my specs: 2019-Mac Pro with 3.5Ghz 8-Core Intel XeonW, MacOS Big Sur 11.4 288GB RAM, Single AMD Radeon W5700X Directly attached T…

Yesterday I was creating the final file for film I had previously graded. I needed to render my existing graded output with both a stereo and a surround track that was finished in ProTools. I thought I would get a feel for Mistika in terms of finishing software. I successfully imported all the materials and went to the audio router panel and mapped all the channels. But from playing with it and reading the manual it doesn't appear that Mistika has the necessary infrastructure to understand track types and the meta data for individual channels inside tracks. I can map all 8 channels, but not separate them into two tracks and append the channel order in each track. …

  21. Started by Grunken,

I am looking to emulate the wider FOV look of some VR players (such as Skybox's zoom slider) and "bake" this into my insta360 EVO videos for platforms such as YouTube. I was able to achieve this with the native .INSV files and VR Stitch using the EVO camera preset, and by simply setting the Camera Defaults Focal Length to about 7.0. Results below. While this is great for skipping the insta360 Studio app, it seems the IMU data of the EVO is not supported for stabilization in Mistika. As such, I am now trying to use the "stitched" and stabilized output of the insta360 app and "size down" the video in Mistika. What is the best workflow for achieving the above look…

  22. Started by jan1,

So a regular scenario I encounter while working on grades for commercial / digital content for an agency: Step 1: You grade a few select clips for review of color direction. Step 2: Client provides feedback, additional changes are made, this repeats a few times Step 3: Client decides that they liked the 2nd version more than 3 or 4 after all. Step 4: Everything gets graded with the 2nd version of color How do you manage all these different grading versions so you can easily go back to a previous version and apply it, or use it as the base for a new version? In Resolve I would duplicate the entire timeline and save it as Revision X. Also, on every cli…

  23. BlueFix_Highlight_ACES.glsl Hi everyone! We've contacted Paul Dore to ask for permission so we can adapt his GLSL code to Mistika's. Now, with the GLSL file attached in this file, you can easily fix the Blue Highlight Artefact when moving from AP0 Gamut to Ap1 Gamut. Here you can see the before/after: Thanks and kudos to Paul Dore for this awesome code. Much appreciated. I hope you find it useful! Cheers, Cristóbal

  25. I am trying to figure out the best practice for transforming a TV Commercial graded for 709 broadcast to online specs sRGB 2.2 I end up with a different result if I compare the sRGB version on a sRGB corrected display vs the Rec709 version on a Rec709 display. If I use the Unicolor to make the transform see image for settings. sRGB Version Rec709 Version The rec709 version is super close on the sRGB display to the version of the Rec709 Display. While if I make a export from a rec709 grade on Resolve I always need to apply a Color Transformation node to transform the gamma to make it look the same. D…
