I think I am totally blind, since I am sure there must be function somewhere in Mistika. ?

But is there a easy way to save a screen-grab from the current active frame?
(without going through the output settings)

Or even better map this to a button on the Tangent Elements?

Very often I have to email screen-grabs to the DoP or Director for approval, so it would be really nice if there was as blazing fast solution.

It's in the timespace menu (all the way on the right bottom below the 'Exit Mistika' button). A button called 'Save Image' which will save the current frame as a .dpx file.

Thanks!  Jan! This is working great!

Except for the fact it would be even better if it could be a .jpg or .tiff so everybody could view the image.
Maybe this is also a preferences thing I havent discovered yet. ?

Hi there mail18

i think this is the place to use mistika workflows.
I know that on the linox platform you just choose you DPX file right click> “action” >change to tiff or jpg or png?

I think mistika workflows is easy way.

cheers Yoav

Sure, I've started using Workflow for some things. But if I just need to grab a frame to send to the client and don't want to do a screen grab which is not as color accurate as Mistika saving a properly encoded file, having to fire up Workflow is quite the overhead.

Exactly my thought. Most of the time I got asked by a DoP to screen grab a shot directly and mail it to the Director. And then I go to the next shot. So it would be really fantastic if it would be possible from the Color interface. (Bold wishes) ?

If you create a FX preset, which is done on the FX preset tab of the Visual Editor, you can go to the destination folder and you will see two different file created: the pcc file, which is the color information for Mistika, and a dpx file of the image:

I know you are looking for a file different from DPX, such as JPG or PNG (as Jan said, that's already a listed feature request), however, the DPX is the format which you can be sure there won't be compression and the color information will be best translated.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Thanks Cristóbal for the great feedback.

Right now I make the .dpx and have a custom compressor droplet for converting .dpx to .jpg to keep the workflow up to speed!
Great to hear it is in the feature request list!

For one strange reason if I save a FX preset it only saves a .pcc file and Mistika stopped exporting a .dpx to the same folder. Is this strange behaviour or a preset?

In the FX window within Mistika I can see the screenshot so the .dpx file must be stored somewhere right?

Thanks C!

With the "cmd+shift+." shortcut I can see them in finder.

Do you think it would be possible that the are not hidden by default, so I can grab them more easily?

I had problems with it creating DPX files. It doesn't work at all for me at the moment. That is on a Windows machine. I already have a ticket open for that and Laureano is working on it. We're trying to reproduce it. It shows me the file dialog but then no file is created.

I'm not a big expert (nor big fan) of MacOs, but there has to be a way to permanently show hidden files of all folders. I'll look into this subject and let you know.

Yes, within the terminal I can run a command to show all hidden files.
Only it makes the rest of all folders a bit messy.

? I do like Windows cost wise and MacOs interface wise. But I am still not sure buying the new Mac Pro or a HP-Z... (that would be a totally different topic)

The endless debate between cost and userfriendlyness

Or you can do both ? I used to be Windows for more than a decade, then 8 years of Mac only. And as of last month one of each.... I like the performance and flexibility of my new Windows system. I hate its usability.

I keep using my Mac keyboard on my PC, and I use remote desktop to access various things on the Mac without having to switch screens and keyboards.

Back to the original topic - we did find the root cause of the 'Save Image' not creating a file. Apparently the 'Save Image' only works if 'Live Video' is disabled. If you have Live Video enabled it will ask you for a filename but never actually create the file. Presumably it just doesn't have a rendered buffer at hand to actually save?
